MediEvil has two main glitches used during speedruns: the Inventory Glitch and Level Looping. Both are only permitted in the glitched speedrunning categories. There are also two other glitches which are not used as often during speedruns.

Inventory Glitch

When a player presses SELECT the inventory will open. This is used to select weapons and items. SELECT, then closes the inventory again. If you open the inventory and then close it quickly (double tap) there is a brief window in which the player can input commands to allow you to move, jump, attack etc. When the inventory is open Dan is invulnerable. This glitch is useful with regards to the second glitch: Level Looping.

Level Looping

Using the inventory glitch, it is possible to get out of bounds and essentially "fall" to the exit trigger of the level.

As described above, when the inventory is open, Dan is invulnerable. If you double tap SELECT, the inventory will open and close. During the period of it opening and closing movement, jumping, attacking etc. is possible. This is the main mechanic for a level loop.

If you stand on an edge and use the inventory glitch (aka open and close it in quick succession) you are able to jump off the edge and out of bounds (into the darkness). As the inventory is open you are able to skip the death triggers which would normally kill you in normal play.

As you are falling the inventory will be open, if you close the inventory you will die instantly and be put back to the spot in which you jumped off. However, if you hold File:PSB-C.png and then close the inventory, you will not die. In fact, you will be teleported to the top of the level, where you will be able to use the directional buttons to move about whilst falling.

This is the basis for reaching the exit trigger. There are multiple uses of level looping in the game. Some are used to skip to the exit of the level. Others are used to skip an enemy encounter which is needed to progress.

The levels where looping is possible are the following:

The "Knock Back Dash" Glitch

The club's power-up attack (pressing File:PSB-S.png) can be used on walls and certain objects, to push Dan back. That in conjunction with turning, the daring dash, and running can increase Dan's speed much higher than normal.

Weapon Replenish

It is possible to perform a glitch after your weapon is stolen, which involves tricking the game into breaking it, to the point where it "underflows" and maxes its value out.

To do this, you must open your inventory on the same frame that the weapon is registered as stolen. This is incredibly difficult as you have 1/60th of a second, so basically, it's frame perfect. If you get it, the item will be there, but will have no percentage or ammo count! Simply select the item with File:PSB-X.png afterwards. Then proceed to kill the imp who stole it. It'll be at max percent or ammo.
