Some time after [[Dan]]'s death, [[Zarok]] found this book of Black Magic. Using the spells within it, he plunged the land into eternal night, brought life to the inanimate and robbed the people of Gallows Town of their souls.

The spell book turns up again in 1878, when [[Lord Palethorn]] and [[Professor Hamilton Kift]] locate its pages within an old tomb. Palethorn uses it in 1886 to bring the dead to life, but the pages of the spell book scatter before he can fully complete the spell. Daniel is awakened by the spell and manages to defeat Palethorn in the end.
