Al-Zalam was a mighty genie until a run-in with Zarok left him locked into Sir Daniel Fortesque's empty skull! He likes to remind people of his halycon days often. For this reason, he harbours an enormous grudge against Zarok, which he has in common with Sir Dan. Ultimately this shared purpose can turn their uneasy alliance into something of a friendship.
Zalam acts as the game's main tutor, heard dropping hints about the places that he and Sir Dan visit or providing Sir Dan with additional stretegy tips. The last we see of Al Zalam is at the end of Medievil Resurrection when he saves Dan from a fiery inferno and they head back to the crypt. Dan is seen going into his deathly sleep while it is not known what happens Al Zalam.
