Speedrunning:MediEvil (1998) Any%
The Any% category for MediEvil (1998) is the fastest and shortest category to speedrun.
The scope of this category is to simply complete the game as fast as possible with any percentage of completion. Collecting chalices, weapons, or completing all levels is not mandatory. You are allowed to use any known and unknown glitch.
Rules
- Any use of the in-game cheat menu is prohibited.
- The timer starts upon pressing New Game in the main menu.
- The timer ends upon the final hit on Zarok.
- After killing Zarok, it must be possible for the credits to run. You do not have to play them in your submission on Speedrun.com, but it must be possible for them to roll.
- You are required to skip the dragon gate in The Gallows Gauntlet. You can decide to skip the dragon gate in any way possible.
Platform
Runs on emulators and console have separate leaderboards. This is because some glitches can only be performed on emulators, and because the game runs slightly slower on consoles. Runners can specify the platform of their run upon submitting the recording.
For emulator runs, you can use any emulator you want, but most of the community uses ePSXe 2.0.0 because the game runs better than on other emulators, and because the Soldier despawn glitch works on this specific version of this emulator.
Glitches used
Although you are not required to use glitches, except for skipping the dragon gate, most runners use several of them to obtain competitive times. The ones used in this category are:
- Speed glitch
- Super daggers (optional)
- Super club (optional)
- Hilltop Mausoleum Gate Skip (optional)
- Knockback Dash (optional)
- Inventory glitch
- Level looping
- Dragon Gate Skip or Smuggling
