Smuggling, or rune smuggling, is a glitch that can be performed in any level in the original MediEvil, as well as its 2019 remake. It consists of collecting items (such as Rune Stones) in one level in order to use them in another. Normally, key items are not meant to be used outside the level in which they are collected (except for the Skull Key, Dragon Gems, and Shadow Artefact).
How it works
To perform the smuggling glitch in the original MediEvil, starting from the map screen, you open the save menu while quickly also starting a level.
When performed properly, you will be able to confirm your intent to save as the screen fades to black to start the level. Upon the start of the level, you will get the rest of the save screens.
Switching between menu items allows you to move Dan briefly. Continuously doing this allows you to move around the level and collecting items. When you collect the item that you want to smuggle, complete the save and quit the level to return to the main menu and reload the save you just created.
You will be on the map screen again and you can now start another level with the item you collected before saving in your inventory.
How it is used
This glitch is normally used in speedruns to smuggle the Star Rune from Dan's Crypt and use it to open the exit gate in The Gallows Gauntlet, allowing you to skip the Dragon Gate.
