"The best place to go if you're looking for a dead Dan."
― Grim Reaper, MediEvil: Resurrection

Dan's Crypt is the introductory field level in both MediEvil (1998) and its 2019 reimagining. It was also given a slight rework in MediEvil: Resurrection.

Here, the player will be introduced to Sir Daniel Fortesque and will be given an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the land of Gallowmere and moving the newly-revived knight around the field.

General walkthrough

As Dan (and the genie Al-Zalam) rise from his dais, he will be addressed by the snarky gargoyles on either side of the hall. They don't think he will succeed in his new mission, but they certainly welcome him to try. Grab the Throwing Daggers and Small Sword just ahead. The Daggers will always respawn on replay, so keep this in mind. In versions that have it, grab an exposed Life Bottle to extend Dan's longevity by 1 fall.

Note the off-colour wall near the exit—Dan cannot do anything with it quite yet, but he will soon be able to.

Head left at the intersection to reach a room with an aqueduct/lava flow. Jump the gap to move further in to some Gold Coins and a chest with a Copper Shield. Grab the Star Rune in the vicinity as well.

In Resurrection, the right path leads to Dan's personal library, where one can practise and study the various additions to the game.

Head for the gate to place the Rune, then run toward Zarok's magic slime to complete the area.

Return runs

In all versions, one can equip Dan with a Club or the War Hammer to smash the off-colour wall. The goodies in here may include some gold, Energy Vials, or another Life Bottle. Exit the same way as before, and Dan will complete the level with a coveted green check mark.

In Resurrection, there is another off-colour wall; smash this one to reveal a hidden mummy. Beat it to fill the Chalice of Souls for the area. The Spade from Return to the Graveyard will help dig it out.
