The Spade was an item useful for digging up graves.

Sir Dan found many spades across his journey, which proved useful on several occasions, as he had to dig up a piece of the Anubis Stone out of the Mullock Chief's memorial in the Graveyard, and later, a wooden leg in a pirate graveyard.

"A spade - in a cemetery! I sense great logic at work."
Al-Zalam, upon seeing a spade.

The spade is used to dig up graves, to find items or treasure buried in them. It is required to get a piece of the Anubis Stone in Return to the Graveyard, a wooden peg leg in Scurvy Docks and the chalice in Dan's Crypt.
