A scythe was an agricultural hand-tool for mowing grass or harvesting crops.
History
14th century
A version of Sir Daniel Fortesque's legend poetically recounted how demons supposedly fell before the hero "like wheat before the scythe." Perhaps due to this, there were several mounted shield displays in the hero's crypt which also featured scythes.[1][2]
According to some historical accounts, Death resided in Gallowmere and carried a scythe.[3]
