Fortesque family

The Fortesque family was a noble family living in Gallowmere. Buck teeth were a known Fortesque familial trait.

History

In the 13th century, the head of the family, Lord Cedric Fortesque, was the richest nobleman in the land. His eldest son, Sir Daniel Fortesque, would go on to become the Captain of the Militia and eventually the Hero of Gallowmere. The family line came to an end centuries later in 1945, when the last Fortesque, Colonel Freddie, died at sea.

• Lord Cedric Fortesque (fl. 1254), the richest nobleman in Gallowmere and father of Sir Daniel Fortesque.
• Sir Daniel Fortesque (1254 – 1286), the Hero of Gallowmere.
• Captain Fortesque (born 1254), Sir Dan's cowardly living self.
• Unnamed Fortesque (fl. 1286), a close relative of the Hero of Gallowmere.
• Unnamed Fortesque (died 1415), fought and died at the Battle of Agincourt.
• Unnamed Fortesque (died 1815), fought and died at the Battle of Waterloo.
• Unnamed Fortesque (died 1940), fought and died at the Battle of Dunkirk.
• Colonel Freddie Fortesque (1878 – 1945), the last of the Fortesque line.

Development

MediEvil 2 was originally going to feature a descendant of Sir Daniel Fortesque as the main protagonist – Sir Henry Fortesque.

Etymology

Fortesque is likely derived from the surname Fortescue (meaning "strong shield"). Fortescues trace their origins to Richard Le Fort who allegedly defended William the Conqueror with a shield at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
