"Want to be faster on your feet? Want to be able to bash down walls by charging into them? All you have to do is defeat the evil Guardians of the Graveyard and gain this new ability! You will never know why you left the grave without it!"
― A book in the Graveyard.

The Daring Dash, also known as the Shoulder Charge, was an ability possessed by the Guardians of the Graveyard.

History

In 1386, Sir Daniel Fortesque engaged in battle against the Guardians of the Graveyard in order to escape the Necropolis. After their defeat, Dan earned the Daring Dash ability, allowing him to move around faster.

Gameplay

In order to obtain the Daring Dash in the first MediEvil, Sir Dan must defeat the Guardians of the Graveyard. In MediEvil 2 and MediEvil: Resurrection, Sir Dan has this ability from the beginning.

The Daring Dash can be used to break open weak spots in a wall. Double tap the forward directional button +  . If you are using an Analog Controller (DUAL SHOCK), press hard forward on the left stick +  . Repeat this until you've broken down the wall. You can also use it to knock enemies off platforms. You can even make a running jump!

Behind the scenes

Development

MediEvil (1998 original)

The dash was a later addition to the game as it did not exist in early versions like the MediEvil Rolling Demo or the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha.

An unused book from The Enchanted Earth suggests that the Daring Dash would have originally been given to Dan by the Forest Witch:

"Want to be faster on your feet? Want to be able to bash down walls by barging into them?
Then use the Witch Talisman and summon forth the Forest Witch and gain this new ability, you will never know why you left the grave without it!"
