Pools Of The Ancient Dead is the sixth level in the Any% category of the original MediEvil. The goal of this level is to reach the exit. You will not collect any items except for those needed to complete the level. You can, optionally, collect an Energy Vial and the 3rd Life Bottle in this level.
Note: This level starts with a cutscene. Remember to skip it by holding START after selecting the level from the Land Map. |
Walkthrough
Tip: At the start of the level, while the black screen disappears, you can already control Dan. Move towards Right/Top-Right to go in the correct direction. |
- Run forward onto the narrow passage and past the dilapidated building.
Note: This first building hides an energy vial. You can quickly grab it if you need to heal. Make sure to have any amount of extra life in your life bottles. If they are all empty, the Jacoghosting glitch in the next steps will fail because Dan's death will cause a Game Over. |
- Take the right path. At the end of it, dash and jump towards the island on the top right side, where the Soul Helmet can be seen.
- Grab the soul helmet and run towards left until you reach the bridge, on the left again.
Shortcut: Instead of taking a left, you can perform a very tricky jump back onto the platform you came from to save time (see Picture 2). Run back to the first dilapidated building and continue on the path forward to reach the Boat Man. Jumping on the platform from here will trigger a cut-scene that you can avoid by jumping onto the platform keeping your right and jumping as close as you can to the boat (see Picture 3). This shortcut's execution is shown in the video in the sidebar. |
- Run onto the bridge and jump on the battlement where the Merchant Gargoyles is.
- Step onto the parapet on the left of the gargoyle and position yourself at the very edge of it.
- Dash and jump towards the platform in front of the Boat Man (see Picture 1). This jump is tricky because you have very little space to execute it.
- You should have the boat on your right. Side step towards it and stumble on the edge.
- Perform the Jacoghosting glitch and reach the exit to leave the level.
Note: If you wait half a second longer before giving the helmet to the boat man, Dan will be a bit higher when you perform the glitch, allowing you to "run" towards Top-Right and collect the life bottle on the island, along with more energy vials on the way. |
