Dan's Crypt is the first level in the Any% speedrun of the original MediEvil. The goal of this level is to collect the Life Bottle and reach the exit. You will not collect any other item. If you are planning to use the smuggling glitch later in the run to skip the Dragon Gate, you will briefly come back to this level to smuggle the Star Rune.
Optionally, if you need an additional life bottle, you can collect the one behind the secret wall when you come back for the smuggling or when you obtain the club.
Walkthrough
- As soon as you gain control of Dan, the camera will be facing you.
- Run right and grab the Star Rune.
- Switch direction to go back.
- Reach the end of the tunnel and turn right, running behind the book pedestal, and towards the dirt pile at the end of the room, avoiding any obstacle.
- Jump over the dirt pile to collect the Life Bottle and drop onto the hand on the wall to use the star rune and open the gate.
- Run up the stairs towards the exit. You do not need to adjust the camera, it will turn by itself for you.

Walkthrough - Smuggling
If you are returning to the crypt to smuggle the Star Rune, the walkthrough is straight forward:
- As you gain control of Dan, run towards the tunnel to your right.

- Continue running towards the Star Rune while switching between the save menu items.
- Grab the Rune Stone.
- Save the game in a save slot as soon as you see the message that the Star Rune has been collected.
- Press START and quit the level.
- Reload the new save, you will load on the map screen, with the star rune in your inventory.
