Zarok's spell book was an ancient book of Black Magic. Its most notable users were Zarok in 1386 and Lord Palethorn in 1886. Both sorcerers were thwarted by the reanimated knight Sir Daniel Fortesque.

Known spells

The Evernight

The Evernight, also known as the Spell of Eternal Darkness, was used by Zarok to raise an army of the dead to take over Gallowmere. It was used by Lord Palethorn 500 years later to take over London.

History

14th century

Some time after the death of Sir Daniel Fortesque in 1286, Zarok came into possession of this book of Black Magic. In 1386, using the spells within, Zarok plunged the land into eternal night, robbed the people of Gallows Town of their souls and free will and brought life to the dead and inanimate.

Sir Dan found the spell book lying on a lectern in The Entrance Hall during the final stretch of his journey. However, he left it undisturbed.

19th century

The spell book turned up again in 1878, when Lord Palethorn and Professor Hamilton Kift located some of its pages within an old tomb in the Hebrides. Palethorn used it 8 years later in 1886 to bring the dead back to life, but because he was missing some of the book's pages, he didn't possess full control over the undead. Sir Dan was awakened by the spell and managed to defeat Palethorn.

According to one account, Sir Dan and his girlfriend Princess Kiya travelled to an alternate timeline where Palethorn used the spell book to travel back in time and rewrite history, replacing Zarok with himself.
