The speed glitch is an extremely easy glitch to perform, but a difficult one to master.

Speed glitch
Difficulty Easy
Possible in Any level
Used in Dan's Crypt
The Graveyard
Cemetery Hill
Hilltop Mausoleum
Return to the Graveyard
Obsolete No

How it works

To move, you normally hold the directional buttons or the Left analog stick, and you walk or run in that direction. However, if instead of holding the DPAD/analog to move, you repeatedly tap the analog stick in the desired direction, you will gain a higher amount of speed.

For example, if you wanted to move forward using the speed glitch, instead of just holding forward, you would repeatedly tap it. This will allow you to increase your forward momentum.

There's a limit to the speed that you can gain with this glitch.

The glitch is tiring to perform, and to avoid physical issues, the speedrunning community decided to allow the usage of a tool to automate the tapping of the analog stick.

Using the autofire trick is not mandatory. To use it, you need to install Joy2Key and configure it:

  1. Go to the resources on Speedrun.com and download the file. Unzip it, and set it aside. This is the preset profile for the glitch. You will need it shortly.
  2. Download Joy2Key and start it.
  3. Go to File > Open config data folder
  4. Copy the .cfg file that you downloaded in step 1 and paste it in the folder that you just opened.
  5. Restart Joy2Key and then select the newly added profile.
  6. Start MediEvil on ePSXe and enter any level.
  7. Press and hold  . If Sir Dan starts running, you configured everything correctly.
  8. If nothing happens, follow this guide to remap your controller with Joy2Key.

How it is used

In the first MediEvil, this glitch is normally used until you gain the Daring Dash ability in the Return to the Graveyard level. Once you do, dashing is better than using the speed glitch.

There is no known way to use the glitch to skip sections of the game or clip through walls.
