The Big Rat was an enemy set to appear in the Morten version of Inside The Asylum in the original MediEvil. However, the level was eventually reworked into a level for Sir Dan. As a result, the Big Rat was considered for reuse in a planned second part of The Enchanted Earth level.[1] In the end, this part of The Enchanted Earth was scrapped as well, and the Big Rat was left completely unused.

Behind the scenes information
Cut from

The Rat's textures appear in the Inside The Asylum level VLO in the MediEvil Rolling Demo.[2] His model, textures and animations appear in an unused WAD in the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha.[3]

Characteristics

Appearance

The Big Rat was a brown rodent with yellow eyes.

Gameplay

The Big Rat's exact gameplay role in Inside The Asylum is unknown, but it likely would have served as an adversary for Morten.

In the planned second part of The Enchanted Earth, the Big Rat would have guarded the entrance into the Great Tree. Dan would have had to defeat it in order to obtain the key hung around its neck.[1]

Animations

The Big Rat has three animations.
