Sammy the Seal Boy was billed before the genie Al-Zalam whilst Al worked at a carnival at some point in his past. Al-Zalam told Sir Dan of this as they entered the Undead Carnival in Gallowmere Plains.
Behind the scenes
Reference
Sammy is likely named after Sammy the Seal, a book in the "I Can Read" series for beginning readers by American cartoonist and children's book author Syd Hoff. Additionally, "Seal Boy" is a reference to Sealo the Seal Boy. Sealo was known for his seal-like arms, which were caused by a congenital medical condition known as phocomelia.
In other languages
All translations except for Italian dropped "boy", meaning Sammy is a literal seal or sea lion in those versions.
