"Fortesque, you jawless arrow magnet - what are you doing back here?"
― Woden the Mighty, addressing Sir Dan.

Woden the Mighty was a legendary hero, which earned him a place in the Hall of Heroes.

History

Life

Little is known about Woden's life. It is said that he was unbeaten in combat, making it unlikely that he died in battle.

Afterlife

Woden gave Sir Dan the Broad Sword after Dan collected five Chalices of Souls and paid homage to the hero.

Characteristics

Personality

Truly the hero's hero, Woden the Mighty was fearless, single-minded, and uncompromising. Unbeaten in combat, he inspired raw fear in friends and enemies alike, not to mention in close family members and pets.

Behind the scenes

Development

His name and appearance are based on the Germanic deity Woden, also known as Odin. Odin was associated by Roman historian Tacitus with the god Mercury, a god often depicted as wearing a winged helmet and winged sandals, which may explain the wings on Woden's armour in the original game and its 2019 remake. In MediEvil: Resurrection, Woden is depicted as having only one eye, making him look even more like the Germanic deity.

Name

"Woden" is the Anglo-Saxon cognate of Óðinn.[1] It ultimately developed from the early Germanic Woðanaz, which in turn comes from pre-Germanic Wātónos.
