Beetles

Beetles were bugs set to appear in the Morten versions of Inside The Asylum and The Entrance Hall in the original MediEvil. However, both levels were eventually reworked into levels for Sir Dan. As a result, beetles were considered for reuse in a planned second part of The Enchanted Earth level, where they would have attacked Dan after he was shrunk down, but only if he had stepped on them previously.[1] In the end, this part of The Enchanted Earth was scrapped as well, and beetles were left completely unused.

Their textures appear in the Inside The Asylum level VLO in the MediEvil Rolling Demo.[2] Their model, textures and animations appear in an unused WAD in the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha.[3] Further, their textures can still be found in the final game's VLO of The Entrance Hall along with textures for Morten and Woodlice.[4]

Characteristics

Appearance

Beetles were bugs with six legs and two antennae. They had a striped black and red pattern on their heads and bodies. They had bright green eyes.

Gameplay

Their exact gameplay role in the Morten levels is unknown. In the second part of The Enchanted Earth, they would have been Sir Dan's adversaries after he'd been shrunk down, but only if he'd stepped on some of them beforehand.[1]

Animations

Beetles have three animations.
