Cut from |
The Shadow Guardian, also known as the Demon, is a cut boss from MediEvil. It is a hulking monster that would have been encountered as part of the Circle of Shadows level. Additionally, a design document seems to suggest it was considered for use in a version of The Gallows Gauntlet as well.[1] Its model and animations can be found within the Circle of Shadows' WAD in the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha.[2]
Characteristics
Appearance
The Shadow Guardian was a dark blue monster with oversized arms, a thick torso, and a disproportionately small set of hoofed legs. It did not seem to have a prominent head either, with two yellow eyes peering out of its muscular torso where one would expect a neck to be. It wore an elaborate dragon-shaped ornament around its head and two spiked bracelets around its wrists.
Gameplay
Files for the Shadow Guardian appear in the Circle of Shadows level, making it likely that it was going to be fought in this level. In addition, a design document suggests that at some point, it was going to be chased by Sir Dan through The Gallows Gauntlet level, where it would cause rocks to fall down at Dan by smashing its fists into the canyon walls. The demon would have carried a key that Dan would need to get into Zarok's castle. Should Dan fail to retrieve the key, the level would start over again. The entire section was to be tightly orchestrated, and would have served as a foil to The Silver Wood.[1]
Animations
The Shadow Guardian has 8 animations in total.
