Maggots were enemies removed from MediEvil. They were to feature in the Scarecrow Fields and Pumpkin Gorge levels. As their name suggests, they were large maggot creatures. They could burrow underground, and after erupting from the ground, they would spit projectiles at Dan. They can be found in the files of the MediEvil Rolling Demo and the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha.
Characteristics
Appearance
Maggots were giant, segmented creatures with suckers covering the front of their body. They had a big pair of mandibles and a huge gaping mouth with small, sharp teeth on their head.
Gameplay
Although they cannot be encountered normally, it is possible to hack Maggots back into the game in the MediEvil Rolling Demo and the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha as their entity is present in the PG overlay and their textures and model are in the Pumpkin Gorge VLO and WAD respectively.[1][1.2][2][2.2] However, they don't seem to be fully implemented, as they do not burrow into or emerge from the ground, instead only thrashing in place. Killing a Maggot awards Dan with 125 points.[1.1][2.1]
Animations
Maggots have six animations in total.
Behind the scenes
Development
Two models of Maggots appear in the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha. One is used in the Pumpkin Gorge level and another is in a separate, unused WAD.[2.3] This second, unused version seems a lot more finished, as the Maggot is much more intricately textured. It is also not segmented; the whole model consists of only a single part, unlike the used model, which has six parts. However, the unused model only has one animation (thrashing animation).
