History

13th century

It is said that when he was young, Zarok the Sorcerer had a dog called Mr Snuffy. The dog was killed on the day of King Peregrin's coronation by the king's guards who thought the creature was going to attack the new monarch. This served as the catalyst for Zarok's obsession with necromancy.[1]

Sir Daniel Fortesque, captain of Gallowmere's militia, had his own hound called Lupo. Unfortunately, the captain was prone to mistreating the dog.[1]

Soon after Sir Dan passed away, his body was placed in a newly built crypt. The hero's head was laid on a gold dog statue.[2]

14th century

When addressing his Fazguls, Zarok said he wanted dogs to gnaw marrow from Dan's bones after his defeat. It is unknown whether this was just a figure of speech by the villain or whether Zarok kept dogs of his own at the time.[3]

When Sir Dan's body was recovered from his crypt and moved to the museum in Kensington, his gold dog statue was moved along with him.[4]
