Peafowl was a common name for two bird species of the genus Pavo and one species of the closely related genus Afropavo. Male peafowl were referred to as peacocks, and female peafowl are referred to as peahens.
History
13th century
Captain Fortesque of Gallowmere had a peacock feather in his possession.[1] It is unknown whether peacocks were native to Gallowmere or whether the feather was imported.
