"I must make haste for Zarok's men will be here within the hour. I have taken the crucifix from the church - it is the key to a key."
The Town Mayor's message about the Crucifix.

A crucifix[a] was a principal symbol for many groups of Christians.

History

14th century

A crucifix hung on the wall behind the altar in the Gallows Town church. The Town Mayor hid his Safe Key in the church's secret room which only appeared when the crucifix was in place. He then had a cast made of the crucifix whilst having the original destroyed. This was all done in an effort to prevent Zarok the Sorcerer from obtaining an artifact the Mayor had hid in a safe in his house.

When Sir Daniel Fortesque reached the town, he was able to locate notes left behind by the Mayor. Using this knowledge, Dan was able to reconstruct the crucifix, which he placed in the church.

Gameplay

The Crucifix is made by smelting the Landlord's Bust on the Crucifix Cast on Old Man Willy Green's forge in the Smithy. Placing it in Gallows Town's church reveals a secret room within it, which contains the Mayor's Safe Key.

Notes

  1. A crucifix is a cross with an image of Jesus on it, as distinct from a bare cross. The crucifix in MediEvil is thus named erroneously, as it is only a cross.
