The Serpent of Gallowmere was the evil brother of Kul Katura the Serpent Lord. He was encountered in the Gallows Gauntlet and also appeared in the Haunted Ruins as part of Daring D. Castro's quest.

History

Before the Evernight

The Serpent of Gallowmere and his sibling, Kul Katura, were once objects of worship. Dragons of old built the Dragon Gate in their image.[1][1.1] The Serpent was jealous of his brother however, which eventually made him turn on their followers.[1.2] King Peregrin hoped to trap the evil Serpent within a magical chest, but managed to trap his brother instead.[1.3] Other accounts suggest Zarok himself trapped Kul Katura.[1.4]

Eventually, or perhaps before, the Serpent was trapped in a chest like his brother, though it is unknown who accomplished this or when. The chest was placed beyond the Dragon Gate. A book was installed in the area, warning readers to run if they were to encounter the creature.

During the Evernight

During his journey to liberate Gallowmere from Zarok's control, the freshly resurrected Sir Dan found the chest containing the Serpent by passing through the Dragon Gate using his Dragon Armour. When Dan got too close to the chest, the Serpent burst out of it. Unlike his brother Kul Katura, who helped Dan by killing his enemies, the Serpent attacked Dan. In the end, the undead knight bravely fought off the creature.

Gameplay

Strategy

Though it is recommended to just avoid the Serpent while it is chasing you, it can actually be killed. If Dan hits its head enough times with any of his weapons, the Serpent will let out a dying sound and leave. Doing so in the PS4 remake or the 2024 re-release of the original game will unlock a trophy.
