Kul Katura the Serpent Lord was a mighty serpent captured and trapped by King Peregrin's men within a chest in the Scarecrow Fields. He could also be encountered in the Pools Of The Ancient Dead, and even inside The Asylum as part of the lost soul Surgeon Sherman's quest. He was the polar opposite of his brother, the Serpent of Gallowmere.

History

Kul Katura and his sibling, the Serpent of Gallowmere, were once objects of worship. Dragons of old built the Dragon Gate in their image.[1][1.1] The Serpent of Gallowmere was jealous of his brother however, which eventually made him turn on their followers.[1.2] King Peregrin hoped to trap the evil Serpent within a magical chest, but managed to trap Kul Katura instead.[1.3] Other accounts suggest Zarok himself trapped the mighty lord..[1.4] Regardless, Sir Dan freed Kul Katura in 1386, who subsequently aided him in battle.

Development

MediEvil (1998 original)

Originally, Kul Katura was supposed to be summoned by picking up the Serpent Potion rather than opening up a chest.[2] This was eventually changed during the game's development.

MediEvil: Resurrection

An unused text for a book found in file 00736.LTR in gamedata.bin suggests Kul Katura was set to appear in the game:

MediEvil (2019 remake)

In the original MediEvil, Kul Katura is said to have been trapped in a chest by Zarok. However, this is changed to be King Peregrin's men in the remake's Book of Gallowmere. Despite this, the book in Scarecrow Fields still says it was Zarok who trapped him.
