The Muddy Riverbank is a level that was cut from MediEvil.[2] Based on the level list in the MediEvil Rolling Demo, it would have followed on from The River level and continued into The Mud Slide.[2]

The level can be accessed in the MediEvil ECTS Pre-Alpha, but only via hacking. The level, being a part of the game's swamp section, is somewhat similar to the Pools Of The Ancient Dead, but features many dragon bones and a muddy vertical section that needs to be climbed in order to exit the level. Due to the level's unfinished state, there are no enemies to fight, or items to collect. However, the level's VLO suggests that Armoured Knights were set to appear in the level.

A few scenes featuring the level appear in an old promotional trailer; Dan can be seen crossing a long wooden bridge which leads to an area full of dragon bones, where Armoured Knights, Mud Knights, and Ghouls can also be encountered.

In the MediEvil 0.28 development build, The Muddy Riverbank can be seen in an early version of the Land Map. It is located in the same position as the Lake in the final game.

According to Jason Wilson's notes, at some point in development, The Muddy Riverbank would have become accessible after collecting all shields for the Boat Man in the Pools Of The Ancient Dead.[1] This is likely after The River and The Mud Slide levels were already cut.

    Repurposed elements

Although the level didn't make it into the final game, a few of its elements were reintroduced into The Gallows Gauntlet level in development build 0.39.
