Dragons were powerful sapient beasts who could breathe fire. They once resided in the land of Gallowmere.

    History

Little is known about the history of dragons in Gallowmere. The "dragons of old" are known to have constructed the Dragon Gate in the Gallows Gauntlet, as well as the Dragon Armour.[2][2.1] The Gate was fashioned in the image of the serpents, possibly because the dragons once worshipped them.[1.2]

It is said that dragons were hunted for their blood, which grants the power of fire-breathing.[1.1] By 1386, only one living dragon seemed to remain in Gallowmere.

    Hybrids

There were many dragon hybrids found in late 14th century Gallowmere; in fact, they were more numerous than dragons themselves. Some hybrids were the result of sexual reproduction between dragons and other species, while others were created via magical experimentation.[1.3][1.4]

    Dragon Birds

Dragon Birds inhabited the Enchanted Earth where they built giant nests in which they hoarded their stolen treasures.[1.5] Little else was known about their nature.

    Dragon Toads

Dragon Toads were theorised to be a de-evolution of dragons.[1.6] They resided in the Enchanted Earth. Licking the back of a dragon toad could allegedly drive a person mad.[1.6]

    Elephant Dragons

Elephant Dragons were said to be the result of intercourse between a dragon and an elephant. These passive, water-breathing beings were only found in the grand lakes of Gallowmere.[1.3]

    Jabberwocky

The Jabberwocky was a chicken-dragon hybrid. It was believed to be the only one of its kind. It could not be killed by mortal weapons due to its magical nature.[3]

The Jabberwocky was created by Gallowmere's court magician Mazok the Muddled, who hoped to produce a giant chicken that could lay eggs the size of a dragon's in order to stave off the famine Gallowmere was suffering under in the late 13th century. The Jabberwocky proved to be a solution to the famine, albeit in a twisted way; the creature tore a path of destruction through the kingdom, killing much of the population. It was eventually chased out of the kingdom by hero Dirk Steadfast.[1.4] Years later, the creature plummeted off a high cliffside while chasing Sir Daniel Fortesque through the Silver Wood.[2.2]
