Merchant Gargoyles were the greedy counterparts of Information Gargoyles. They sold or exchanged goods throughout Gallowmere.
History
In 1386 during the evil sorcerer Zarok's second attempt at conquering Gallowmere, the Merchant Gargoyles provided their services to Sir Daniel Fortesque.
Characteristics
Appearance
Canonical account
The merchants had a blue to silvery-white exterior.
Apocryphal account
Other sources claimed that the merchants were distinguishable from their informative brethren by their red stone skin instead of a greenish patina.
Personality
Canonical account
As merchants are mute, their overall personality could not be determined. A book found in Dan's Crypt explaining gold coins stated that they were avaricious. This could be seen by how they voraciously gobbled up any coins offered them. They also expressed sadness when Sir Dan had second thoughts about purchasing from them.
Apocryphal account
Other sources had observed these creatures as being as talkative and expressive as their green counterparts. They often presented as extremely eager to make a sale.
Gameplay
MediEvil
In MediEvil, Sir Dan can buy ammo for his ranged weapons, an enchantment for his Broad Sword, or have his Gold Shield repaired by these creatures. They can also sell him weapons that had been stolen from him by thieving imps.
If Dan is wearing the Super Armour while shopping at a Merchant Gargoyle in the 2019 remake, he will pay an extra 10% of the price, although this increase is not indicated in the merchant menu itself. It is therefore recommended that the armour is taken off before shopping.

Behind the scenes
Merchant Gargoyles appear in all three versions of MediEvil. They serve as the game's item shop, allowing the player to restock on ammunition or to buy back stolen weapons.
Development
MediEvil (1998 original)
Merchant Gargoyles do not appear in pre-release versions of the game from 1997. It is therefore likely they were conceptualised after the game's Zeldaesque redesign.
MediEvil 2
Merchant Gargoyles did not return in the second MediEvil. They were instead replaced by The Spiv who provides the same services as they did.
