Behind the scenes
Development
MediEvil: Resurrection
Although not present in MediEvil: Resurrection, Death briefly mentions Mellowmede during a cutscene in the Return to the Graveyard level.[1][1.1] According to the game's script writer and lead designer Dominic Cahalin, Mellowmede was only mentioned in the game 'for fun' and to 'stay true to the idea that Gallowmere was a “real place” with consistent history and geography etc.'[2]
Version specific differences
MediEvil (1999 Japanese original)
The level's loading screen was updated to add the helmet on Dan's head. According to the game's designer and art director Jason Wilson, the addition of the helmet into the Japanese version of the game was a stipulation from the studio's Japanese partners, who were concerned that Dan's skeletal head might be seen as that of a bad spirit and not a 'hero' in Japan.[3]
