The Hilltop Mausoleum is the fourth level in MediEvil and its remake, also serving as an inspiration for the level of the same name in MediEvil: Resurrection. It is also one of the few areas to remain consistent across all three releases. The player is introduced to imps, diminutive creatures with a humanoid appearance, porcine voices, and sticky fingers.
Walkthrough
Prepare to enter a house of pain. So sayeth the book at the entrance. Read it. If Dan has any Club left, he can smack the casket lids for some gold coins and other goodies. Kill any imps that pop up, but beware: an imp sans torch is surely a thief and needs to drop dead fast. If another club or shield is needed, they are in front of the pews.
There is one casket up front with light creeping through it; crush it and drop into the hole to enter the basement. Dan will be at the southern arm of a straight cross with three glass barriers on the other arms. Dan wants to be in the north wing, but he has a ways to go before he can get there. So, take the west wing first. Smash the glass spikes with the club, then kill the imps and grab the loose goods before grabbing the Earth Rune here. Dan must run in the direction of the intersection, lest he loses 1 Life Bottle to a collapsing hallway. Place the Earth Rune, then run and drop into the north wing. Take out the imps and run upstairs to the pulpit, where a Moon Rune waits. If Sir Dan got knocked about, use the Fountain of Rejuvenation in the room below.
As Dan passes through the pulpit, its front door will open. Instead, continue across the room to the organ well. Mr. Organ wants a new tune, but grab the Chaos Rune and exit out from the pulpit back into the sanctuary hall. Drop back into the basement and head for the east wing.
Smash the glass and the glass spikes in this area as well, then place the Moon Rune and smash more spikes en route to another small room of imps, loot, and the Sheet Music. Dan again has to run to the centre of the room before this floor gives way. Next, head back north and into the organ well. Present the Sheet Music, and our ethereal organist will open the way to the Chalice of Souls and a stack of gold coins. Buy extra crossbow bolts from the Merchant Gargoyle here, then return to the sanctuary hall once more to drop into the basement.
Head north once more to hand off the Chaos Rune. Make a right to find a torch on a block and push the block beneath the glass heart, grabbing the Throwing Daggers and the Copper Shield en route; then watch as the soul shards of the Stained Glass Demon gather in the pulpit. When ready, follow them and confront the Demon, who will fly in from a window and attack. Defeat it for the Skull Key. Once Dan takes it, he will exit the area.
Hall of Heroes
This time, talk to Stanyer Iron Hewer who is in the upper right. He will give you the Hammer. You can power up the hammer with the button. The Hammer can smash through things, like a Club, but it doesn't fall apart like one.

Book 4
The would be Phantom of the Opera longs to play a new tune, but he seems doomed to repeat the same chords of despair over and over.
Behind the scenes
Development
The level was originally going to be called The Desecrated Church.[1] It was renamed due to the original name being deemed too blasphemous for the US market by Sony's American legal team.[2][3][4]
