Cats were small carnivorous mammals.
History
13th century
On the day of King Peregrin's coronation, Zarok's dog Mr Snuffy chased a cat near the king's carriage. While the cat managed to get away unscathed, Zarok's dog was not so lucky. The guards didn't realise that the dog had been chasing a cat and so skewered him, assuming the dog was going to attack the king.[1]
14th century
Several cats roamed the hedge maze outside of Gallowmere's asylum. They were a part of Jack of the Green's third riddle.

MediEvil (2019 remake)
In the original game, the cats were animated statues instead of actually being cats. It is unknown why this was changed for the remake.
The black cat in this version is based on Emily Chen's cat.[2] Concept art of the cats from The Art of MediEvil shows that hairless and ginger cat designs were considered.
