MediEvil: Resurrection

"It has risen again - Sir Daniel Fortesque."
― Information Gargoyle, MediEvil

Information Gargoyles are magical stone-made creatures that appear throughout the land of Gallowmere. They are the wise brethren of Merchant Gargoyles.

History

In 1386, Sir Dan meets with the first two Information Gargoyles in his crypt; the first gargoyle taunts Dan for his failure of being Gallowmere's hero when dying at the first charge of the battle a century ago, and the other gargoyle defends Dan, acknowledging that Dan has granted another chance so he can start his whole new journey to achieve his goal as a real hero.

Throughout Gallowmere, Dan will meet more Information Gargoyles. Some will taunt Dan, while others will give him advice to aid him on his journey.

The last Information Gargoyle appears at the City of Madness, just outside of the battle arena. The gargoyle is surprised by Dan's success in almost completing his journey, then gave Dan his final advice for preparing the battle before wishing him luck.

Characteristics

Appearance

The Information Gargoyle is carved as a horned green head resembling either a goat or fanged demon.

However, some sources describe the gargoyle as having a full body model completed with small wings, two-toed feet, and long arms ended with three-fingered hands.

Personality

Although quite clever, the Information Gargoyle has a snarky sense of humour, looking down on Sir Dan for being a fraud but occasionally gives out helpful hints.

MediEvil: Resurrection

Behind the scenes

The Information Gargoyle is one of the supporting characters of MediEvil, its remake, and MediEvil: Resurrection.

Development

MediEvil (original 1998)

In pre-release versions of MediEvil, the Information Gargoyles appear in greater numbers, although there were no voice lines for these gargoyles at that time. Most of them were replaced by books in the final versions.

The Information Gargoyle has an unused dialogue:

"Well about time too. Thought I was going to be a permanent addition to this mossy hellhole!"

MediEvil (2019 remake)

In its concept art from the Art of MediEvil, the Information Gargoyle originally had a full torso, resembling that of the Notre Dame gargoyles.

In its official artwork, the Information Gargoyle wears a door knocker-like object with an eyeball, however it was absent in-game.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

A Gargoyle serves as a narrator for Dan's introduction, rival cutscene and ending in the story mode. Another gargoyle, who uses a model similar to his Resurrection appearance, also appears in "The Graveyard" DLC stage.

He is voiced by Marc Silk, who also provided the voice for several MediEvil 2 characters.
